PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) – Two arrests have been made following a homicide investigation of Rakiem Jones.
Phenix City Police Department arrested 20-year-old Qwaterius Crawford of Columbus, GA and 18-year-old Daiquan Pearson of Phenix City, AL.
Crawford has been charged with capital murder and Pearson has been charged with robbery in the first-degree and felony murder. Both suspects were arrested Monday. The US Marshals and Columbus police assisted in apprehending Crawford who was located at his mom's apartment on Boxwood Boulevard.
Crawford is being held in the Muscogee County Jail awaiting extradition to Phenix City.
Captain Frank Ivey with the Phenix City Police Department says they are familiar with both suspects due to their prior criminal history. We went digging around the Russell County Courthouse records.
We found three charges against Crawford including attempted murder, robbery and carrying a concealed weapon from 2014. The cases are still open, according to court documents.
A search for Pearson did not show any document, but police in Phenix City he faced harassment and domestic violence charges last year. The status of those cases are unclear.
This case continues investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Phenix City Police Department.
