PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Crews were on hand for a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning Phenix City Intermediate School's campus for a new STEM Center.
The STEM Center – which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – is part of a system-wide effort to get children interested in learning by teaching them to think at a higher level.
Among the subjects to be taught at the center are digital media, 3D printing and computer coding.
We spoke with the Phenix City Schools Superintendent Randy Wilkes, who shared what else the center has to offer.
"Every day they would be attending classes regarding digital media, coding, engineering classes as well as virtual science classes," Wilkes said.
Dozens turned out for the event, which wrapped up around noon.
