For the first time in U.S. history two servicemen were able to cast their ballot from overseas electronically. Alabama is the first state to test the new policy.
Only two service members voted in Montgomery's runoff election from overseas.
Secretary of State, John Merrill said it will be up to each of the state's 67 counties to participate, but he hopes the program can go statewide before the presidential primaries in March of 2016.
He says electronic voting will provide an alternative to the traditional route of sending it back through the mail.
