COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A woman was arrested following an incident at a Columbus gas station that led to a car being set on fire and her fleeing the scene.

According to a Columbus Police Department arrest report, Aleysa Shaiann Brooks, 20, was a passenger with a man who stated he was “taking a female friend to Atlanta” when he stopped to get gas at a Chevron on Williams Road on Oct. 10.

The man, from LaGrange, said he went inside to pay for the gas, returned to his rental car and discovered Brooks running from the car “in a hurried manner.”

Moments later, he discovered smoke coming from the backseat of the car and the car on fire.

Brooks was discovered nearby following the incident and gave police a false name and admitted to the fire. Brooks was charged with first-degree arson and giving a false name.

Brooks was given a total bond amount of $25,250.
