The GBI says Columbus native Brent Brannon was killed by Emerson police officer Robert Smith after an altercation during a traffic stop. The officer first used his taser, then shot Brannon when it failed.

Smith pulled over Brannon, who was driving a gold SUV on Interstate 75 for a tag violation.

Smith then discovered the driver, Brent Brannon, had outstanding warrants from Columbus for trafficking heroin and was considered armed and dangerous.

The video shows the officer ask Brannon to get out of the car and when Brannon does not comply, the officer pulls out his Taser - missing Brannon. After the allegedly armed driver fails to get out of the car, the officer shoots at Brannon 13 times, killing him.

Officer Smith is currently on leave pending an investigation.
