COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Being easily distracted, impulsive, and highly active is normal for young children, but when the symptoms are severe and persistent, it can cause problems.
October is Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder awareness month. Some of the symptoms of ADHD include having trouble paying attention, being overly active, it is usually diagnosed in childhood and often lasts until adulthood.
It is still unknown as to what causes ADHD, but research says that genetics could play a role in the disorder.
Before children are prescribed with medication it is recommended for them to receive behavioral counseling.
