PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - The Russell County School Board met Tuesday evening to discuss two important conduct policies to be voted on next month.
The board went over policies dealing with out of school violent criminal conduct with students and sex offenders on school property.
Students who have criminal charges may not be allowed in the school under the first policy, while adult sex offenders would be forced to keep a certain distance from school property under the second policy.
Keith Mitchell, President of the Russell County Board of Education, says both policies are important.
"It's all to make the school safer, whether students who broke the law or adults that broke the law," Mitchell said. "We want to present a safe environment for our kids."
Mitchell adds if an adult sex offender is allowed on school grounds under the proposed policy, it will be with very tight restrictions.
The issues will be voted on November 17.
