(WTVM) – Mmmm, sandwiches.
In today's edition of "days you didn't know were holidays" Tuesday, Nov. 3 is National Sandwich Day.
Whether you like hoagies, sliders, or the traditional version on white bread, sandwiches can satisfy the hungriest of souls.
The date of Nov. 3 has been chosen for National Sandwich Day to honor the birthday of John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. During a late night of gambling for the Earl in 1762, he requested his cook to make in him a meal he could have as he continued play. Thus, the sandwich got its name, although people of the Mediterranean were eating folded bread and meat long before he was.
A handful of restaurants are participating in today's festivities. Here are a list of a few just in time for lunch (all restaurants may vary – check with them before you attempt a deal):
The restaurant is giving customers any free sub of their choice with the purchase of a sub and a 32 oz. drink at participating locations.
