COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – An officer-involved shooting has been confirmed in the area of 28th Street and 3rd Avenue in Columbus.

The incident has been confirmed by CPD Maj. Gil Slouchick.

CPD Chief Ricky Boren confirmed that a man was shot in the leg and is being treated at Midtown Medical Center. Boren said the incident started following police investigating a suspicious vehicle, and a car later crashing into a structure.

The officer is also being treated for their injuries, although it is not clear what those injuries are.

The roadway between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue has been blocked off as part of the investigation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation are also on-scene, per their protocol for officer-involved shootings. The GBI has taken over the investigation, according to Chief Boren.
