Aflac awards Friends of Phenix City Schools with $25k check

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A $25,000 contribution is given to the friends of Phenix City schools on Monday in Columbus.

Monday's check presentation took place at the Aflac campus at Corporate Ridge in Columbus.

The friends of Phenix City Schools includes Phenix City school board members.

Aflac representatives presented the check. Organizer Luanne Gentry with Aflac shared the importance of STEM research, which is what the money is expected to go towards.

"The STEM program is something we can do for our children in Phenix City," Gentry said. "They were really excited about the opportunity to help them grow in their education because what that will do will give Aflac to have future employees that come here that have gone through that program."

STEM stand for science, technology, engineering and math.

Friends of Phenix City Schools also presented Aflac with a portrait of what the new digital media lab will look like when it gets built.
