Key Elementary hosts Veterans Day celebration

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Students at Key Elementary in Columbus gathered for their annual Veterans Day celebration on Tuesday.

The students invited veterans and their family to have breakfast together at the school. Songs for each branch of the military were played with the veterans standing while their songs were being played.

U.S. Army veteran Roy Watson spoke about what the day meant to him.

"Oh I felt great. I mean because I see them coming out, they're young people and that makes me feel good. When I was in Vietnam, I didn't get the appreciation that I got just here today," Roy Watson said, Army Vietnam Veteran.

Students also sang songs and read poems in recognition of Veterans Day.

Each veteran in attendance was recognized with a token of appreciation.
