Columbus business raises money for camp for ill kids

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - One local business made a touching gesture on Monday to assist terminally ill kids from all over the U.S.

Officials from Mark Jones Kitchens gathered at Mark's City Grill on Moon Road to present a check for nearly $5,000 to Camp Laughing Child, a camp in Mexico for terminally ill children with diseases such as cancer or HIV.

Funds raised will go toward scholarships to bring the kids to the camp.

While at the camp they go on boat rides, build bonfires and interact with farm animals.

Camp director Shane Clark says kids' faces light up when they arrive.

"Some of these kids never go to the park," Clark explained. "So they get to Camp Laughing Child, their eyes and mouths open wide. They just have the time of their lives. What a joy it is for all of us to experience at Camp Laughing Child."

The funds from the check were raised by the Grubbin To Give fundraiser held earlier this month by Mark Jones Kitchens restaurants.
