Auburn residents to voice concerns over upcoming Dollar General

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Concerned Auburn residents are set to request Auburn city councilors block construction of a new Dollar General during Tuesday night’s council meeting.

Residents in the Timberwood subdivision in Auburn are fighting to keep a Dollar General from being built at their neighborhood's entrance.

Residents said their biggest concern is the safety of children who live in the neighborhood, since shoppers will have to turn into their neighborhood to get to the Dollar General.

They say the increased nonresidential traffic will put their kids in danger at their bus stops and while they are playing outside.

Residents believe the store will bring an increase in crime, negatively impact their property values, and will be an eyesore.

They also say they had no warning the Dollar General was being built until construction began two weeks ago.

The store is on county property, and the neighborhood is in the city limits of Auburn.

Hundreds of homeowners in the subdivision are expected to attend city council and ask councilors to intervene.

We will continue following this story and bring you more details as they become available.
