Columbus High volleyball star Shardonee Hayes made it official on Tuesday afternoon, signing a scholarship with Arizona of the Pac-12.
Hayes, who played for two state champions with the Blue Devils, earned prep All-American status this past season. She cited the track record for Arizona coach David Rubio as the deciding factor in signing with a program based on the West Coast.
"He recruits players that may not be the top players in the country, but he develops them into becoming All-Americans in college," Hayes said. "His last All-American, nobody recruited her and now she's an All-American for all four years and she's playing overseas professionally. So I feel like it's a good environment for me."
Northside had five athletes sign on Tuesday. Jalen Latta will play baseball at Columbus State, while Noah Churchwell and Austin Kidd will do both track and country at CSU. Morgan Miller signed a cross country scholarship at Georgia Southwestern, and Shelby Miller signed with the rifle team at Murray State.
