COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – One Columbus business leader is starting an initiative to show support for local law enforcement, in light of recent negative publicity for U.S. police officers across the country.
Paul Vorhees, the owner of Ranger Joe's International, announced on Tuesday his intention to buy a Christmas meal for all Columbus police officers and their families the Friday before Christmas.
Vorhees says he hopes this gesture will inspire others to come forward and show their appreciation for local law enforcement. Vorhees explained why he chose to undertake this cause.
"We get an impression that law enforcement or public safety are just not appreciated and in some areas of the country, it's worse than others but it needs to stop," Vorhees said.
Vorhees also says he hopes to expand this initiative to include sheriff's deputies, marshals, and first responders in addition to the police department
