FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Dozens came together for a ceremony at the National Infantry Museum on Tuesday evening to commemorate those who fought in the Vietnam War.
The ceremony celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first major battle of the Vietnam War with a wreath laying event.
A number of those involved in the battle returned to Fort Benning for the ceremony.
"This is important to recognize these people now, during the time they were not popular veterans, as I know all too well," said Stephen Thiele, a veteran of the Vietnam War and Retired Voice of Fort Benning. "But now they are getting the recognition they deserve."
Two leadership conferences were held earlier in the day. It all wrapped up with a dinner event at the National Infantry Museum.
