Opelika hotel fire leaves 1 treated for smoke inhalation

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) – A fire at the Red Carpet Inn in Opelika caused one person to be treated at the scene and damaged the structure Wednesday morning.

According to Opelika Fire Department Chief Byron Prather, the fire department responded to a fire at Red Carpet Inn, located at 1015 Columbus Parkway, at around 7 a.m.

Heavy smoke and flames were visible upon arrival, and it took about 15 minutes to get the fire under control.

Two of the hotel rooms were heavily damaged, and fire crews did evacuate people out of the wing where the fire was located.

One person was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation but wasn't transported to the hospital. This fire is under investigation.
