Columbus to launch safe city app

Columbus to launch safe city app

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Safe City program is ready to launch.

Columbus Safe City is an initiative supported by the Columbus GA Consolidated Government and its associated departments to help make the city's trails and high traffic areas both more engaging and safer for the citizens.

Using the Piper app and its latest Bluetooth beacon technology, users are able to receive messages when they get near one of the beacons.

They can get messages about points of interest, fitness and health tips or even promotion of some of the city's attractions. It also provides a way to help citizens report a safety concern.

The app provides accurate location data so that the first responders or utility staff can be deployed more rapidly and accurately.

A press conference will be held Friday, Dec. 4 at 1:30 p.m. by the water tower next to Eagle and Phenix Mills, where Mayor Tomlinson and representatives from CPD, CCVB, CSU and more will share how they and the city can benefit from Piper technology.
