Fort Benning hosts tower lighting ceremony Friday

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) – Fort Benning is getting into the holiday spirit as the installation held their annual tower lighting ceremony.

Santa Claus was one of many people on hand for the event featuring the Silverwings parachute team performing a jump from an airplane and of course, the lighting of the 250 foot jump towers.

The Maneuver Center of Excellence, who helped organize the event, talked about why this event is important to them.

"It's important because the tri-community supports the MCOE," said battalion commander Lt. Col. Korey E. Brown. "Phenix City and Columbus truly supports MCOE so this is a way of giving back to the community, to the children as well as the folks that support all the soldiers here at the Maneuver Center Of Excellence."

The event also featured 30 foot jump towers open for brave civilians to try their luck at.
