With more military jobs opening up to women as a result of the Defense Department lifting gender-based restrictions officials are now asking if they should be required to register for the draft.
Georgia State Senator Ed Harbison says, with women now completely integrated into the military, it's likely they will register for the draft in the future.
But on the selective services website, it states no decision has been made yet on requiring women to register.
"The uniform says United states army. Everybody is a soldier. Gender specific or not specific, I mean you are a Soldier," says Carlos Lock, Columbus State University Professor of Military Sciences.
While some say women registering for the draft is necessary for total gender equality, Lock says those orders have to come from the top.
