CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - The Chambers County Drug Task Force is working overtime this holiday season. In four weeks, they've arrested 52 people on a total of 95 drug, theft and weapon-related charges.
Task Force Commander Johnny Wood says several residents started complaining about cars being broken into, stolen property and drug activity along South 18th street in Valley.
"Over the past few weeks, we have had a lot of complaints along south 18th street plant city, up in Valley, of cars being broke into lot of stolen property moving and there are a lot of drugs being sold and used in those areas," Capt. Wood said.
The investigation snowballed, among the arrests of 37-year-old Melissa Hoyle of Lanett and her boyfriend Derrick Sturkie who were both charged with trafficking meth after agents raided their Lanett home and discovered crystal meth, money and scales.
At another location, 33-year-old Jonathan Sheppard of Valley, AL, was suspected of trafficking meth and he was also arrested.
Then, during another search warrant, agents arrested two time child sex offender, 53-year-old Scott Roden of Lanett, for two counts of possessing a pistol by a violent felon and controlled substances.
In all, agents seized 6.2 ounces of methamphetamine valued at $17,000, three ounces of marijuana, 455 prescription pills valued at $9,000, seven firearms and two vehicles.
