AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Auburn's City Council voted to extend an existing moratorium on the construction of new apartment complexes in Auburn.
The council voting Tuesday evening to extend the moratorium until May 2016.
Some people are afraid that more large-scale student housing complexes threaten Auburn's small-town charm.
They have formed a group called "Keep Auburn Lovely," but others believe limiting development would be detrimental to attracting investors and the collection of tax revenue.
The moratorium was set to expire on December 15 after being extended by the council in August.
