LSU running back Leonard Fournette was named a consensus All-America as a result of appearing on the first team ballot of three of the five most recognized All-America teams, the NCAA announced on Thursday.
To be listed as a consensus All-America, players must be named first team on a least two of the five selected All-America teams. The five organizations that are used to determine the consensus All-America team include: American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News and Walter Camp Foundation.
Fournette, who currently leads the nation with 158.3 rushing yards per game, earned first team All-America honors from the AP, Football Writers and Walter Camp. He was a second team selection by The Sporting News.
Fournette broke Alexander’s single-season LSU rushing record this season as he’s accounted for 1,741 yards and 18 touchdowns, which is one shy of tying the school mark.
Fournette and the Tigers return to action on Dec. 29 when LSU faces Texas Tech in the AdvoCare Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston. Kickoff for the contest is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN.
