OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - Hundreds of Star Wars Fans made their way to Tiger 13 Theater in Opelika on Thursday night for the premiere of "The Force Awakens."
The premiere has been anticipated for a very long time. Tiger 13 had eight scheduled showings of Star Wars on Thursday, four of them sold out before 7 p.m.
The first show was was in Tiger 13's one of a kind "Big D" Theater. Its screen is 82 feet by three and a half stories tall, with almost 600 seats, all full leather recliners, complete with a state of the art sound system.
An hour before the first show time, the line outside the Big D had to be at least 200 people long.
Fans of Star Wars also took this opportunity to dress up in their favorite characters something that was encouraged by Tiger 13. Darth Vader, Han Solo, a Storm Trooper and some Jedi made their way to the premier in full garb.
Tiger 13 also made sure that security was tight tonight in anticipation for the large crowd. They partnered with Opelika Police to heighten their security effort.
We were assured by Tiger 13 General Manager Gary Krannacker, that this movie would not disappoint.
"I had the chance to view the film this morning and I must say it is excellent," Krannacker said. "I think all the diehard Star Wars fans are really going to approve. Absolutely two thumbs up."
