COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - One local organization is making sure kids stay safe not just during the holiday season but all year long.
Safe Kids Columbus kicked off their annual bike helmet giveaway on Friday evening in Columbus.
The event took place at the Columbus Public Library from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
The helmets were given away on a first-come, first-serve basis and each child had to be accompanied by an adult to be properly fitted.
Local attorney Gary Bruce was the sponsor of the event and spoke about the importance of helmet safety.
"Occasionally, I ride the Riverwalk I wear a helmet, sometimes I see people without helmets, I don't want to see that, no excuses," Bruce said.
Santa Claus was also at the event to check his naughty or nice list ahead of Christmas.
