2 arrested following murder investigation in Meriwether Co.

MERIWETHER COUNTY, GA (WTVM) – The Meriwether County Sheriff along with the Georgia Bureau Investigation Crime Scene Unit are investigating a murder.

The incident happened on Saturday, Dec. 19 around 10 a.m. in the 100 block of Allie Rd. in Greenville, GA. When deputies arrived on the scene they saw 45-year-old John Lamey who was deceased behind a residence due to an apparent gunshot wound. They also saw another person who was shot and injured with non life threatening injuries. 

According to the Meriwether County Sheriff’s office, they were able to gather a description for the vehicle along with the suspect information from the scene as well as other available resources that resulted in suspect identification.

Two suspects were later identified as 19-year-old Xavier Slaton, and 21-year-old Kanorris Martin. As a result of the investigation, Slaton and Martin were taken into custody around 8 p.m. at the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office after they agreed to turn themselves in.

Both of the suspects are being held in the Meriwether County jail without bond. They are charged with murder and aggravated assault. The suspect’s vehicle was also recovered in the 700 block of Marble Road in Gay, GA.

This case is still under investigation and Meriwether County plans to track down other leads and persons of interest.
