COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - They protect and serve our communities each and every day but Monday, members of Columbus area law enforcement agencies came together to serve their community in a very different way.
Officers with the Columbus Police Department, Muscogee County Sheriff's Office, and Columbus State University teamed up for the second annual "Blue Lights and Smiles" at Midtown Medical Center.
After meeting at CSU, the officers traveled to the hospital with their blue lights flashing all the way. They then went up to the pediatric floor of the hospital to deliver toys to sick children.
"This is the best part of my job," said Joyce Dent-Fitzpatrick with the Columbus Police Department. "If I could see a child or a citizen smile, I know that God has touched me to do this and that's the best part of our job."
Different agencies donated to the program and some of the officers even used their own personal money towards the event.
