Opelika officer placed back on administrative leave with pay

Opelika's mayor has placed the police officer, who shot and killed a man on Halloween, back on paid administrative leave.

Mayor Gary Fuller believes it is in the best interest of the city and the officer.

Officer Jared Greer shot and killed 56-year-old Bennie Lee Tignor after police say Tignor failed to comply during a traffic stop and pulled out a firearm.

"From my view of it, I thought our officer was justified. Now, that's my opinion, it will be up to a grand jury, it was Chief McEacherns opinion it was justified too," Mayor Fuller told Fox 54.
Mayor Fuller says when the investigation is over, he will ask for the dash cam video of the incident to be made public.
