FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - As a result of heavy rains, Fort Benning experienced flooded roadways Thursday morning and for approximately an hour, emergency operations officials asked on-post drivers to refrain from driving.
This allowed for stalled vehicles to be towed out of water-filled streets. Rising water has receded in some areas, but as of 1 p.m., emergency response teams have closed four roads, which include Sightseeing, Sunshine, Jamestown and 10th Division Roads. Traffic has been diverted to other routes.
Drivers are advised to use extra caution, yield to emergency vehicles and avoid areas where flooding is apparent.
Residents experiencing water damage in their on-post home can call in an emergency work order at (706-685-3929).
Emergency operations officials are continuing to monitor the weather, and the Public Affairs Office will provide updates on Facebook, as needed.
