Georgia State Patrol urges safety on the roads during Christmas travel

(WTVM) - As you are out on the road Christmas Eve, Georgia State Patrol will also be out as they attempt to avoid more than 600 car accidents that killed 14 people last year.

Troopers are urging the public to be vigilant on the roads as they say traffic deaths always tend to rise during the Christmas holiday.

The added patrols will be especially on the lookout for people using cell phones and not following the speed limit.

"Just make sure if you do get behind the wheel of a car that you do have a sober driver. We don't want you to be behind the wheel impaired, which is the type of thing that we are out there looking for and we are going to be out in force looking for you," Sgt. Chris Rodewolt said, GSP Assistant Post Commander.

Christmas Eve is one of the busiest travel days of the year.
