LANETT, AL (WTVM) - One area hit hard Thursday, Dec. 24 by flooding was the city of Lanett.
The community saw extensive flooding, especially on Highway 29 near the state line, where emergency officials had to block the road and reroute traffic.
Nearby on Cherry Drive, a bridge collapsed into a sinkhole and washed away due to the massive rainfall.
Lanett mayor Kyle McCoy spoke to News Leader 9 about the situation.
Mayor McCoy says the road will remain closed for now, and the city has already reached out to state environmental officials about repairs.
