FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - A small roadway near the new Fort Benning Post Exchange was damaged because of severe weather on Christmas Eve - but it won't affect travel around the building, according to a post official.
The video, filmed by Phillip Smith on Dec. 26, shows what post officials confirm as roadway damage on post. The video has already been shared more than 2,000 times with more than 160,000 views.
Monica Manganaro, Garrison Public Affairs Office Director at Fort Benning, confirmed the road damage, and said it is on a side of the PX that is not a main thoroughfare, and is not often traveled by people trying to get in and out of the building.
The ground sinking in the damaged roadway caused a break in the water suppression line. The water line break has also caused the food court inside the PX to be closed, with the hopes that repairs will restore water service by Wednesday. Manganaro said that the roadway repairs could take between three to six months.
The PX houses the pharmacy and many other shops on post for its residents and is located on Santa Fe Drive.
Manganaro also urges residents on post to stay up-to-date on happenings on post by visiting the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Benning page on Facebook.
