COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - There was a little drama at the end of Wednesday afternoon's spelling bee between some local middle schoolers.
WTVM News Leader 9 anchor Jason Dennis was the pronouncer for the Richards Middle School bee, which was held next door at Clubview Elementary.
Twenty-six spellers participated. After almost one hour of back-and-forth spellings, the final two battled over numerous words.
The Richards Middle School spelling bee winner was 7th grader Hannah Roberts and runner-up was 7th grader Brady Hampel. The winning word was "soiree."
