AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - The Auburn Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a man on Saturday.

APD says the shooting took place at a home in the 400 block of Webster Road on Jan. 9. At the scene, police discovered the victim, Marquorious Rowell, 18, from Auburn, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Rowell was later pronounced dead at the East Alabama Medical Center emergency room.

During the beginning stages of the investigation, APD determined that Rowell had accidentally been shot inside the home by a juvenile during an "accidental discharge."

The unidentified teen, who was at the scene when police arrived, was taken from the scene and questioned.

Rowell's body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Montgomery for an autopsy.  The Auburn Police Division is being assisted in the investigation by the Alabama Department of Forensic, the State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
