COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus man accused of killing another person in a car accident did not appear in court Thursday as he was expected to.
Derrick Ingram, 24, posted bond Thursday after his first hearing on Monday was continued.
Police say he killed 25-year-old Kevin Foy of Columbus on Saturday, Jan. 16 shortly before 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Woodruff Farm Road and Branton Lane.
Officials say the vehicle left the roadway, striking a fire hydrant and a tree before coming to a stop in the parking lot of Fort Middle School on Woodruff Farm Road.
Foy was taken to the hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead at Midtown Medical Center.
Police say the driver, Ingram, left the scene after EMS arrived. Ingram later arrived at the hospital to check on Foy but learned he had passed away.
Ingram was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, duty to report, duty to striking, failure to maintain lane, and no seat belt.
It is unclear whether or not Ingram will have another court appearance scheduled.
