COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday was celebrated with the 30th annual Unity Award Breakfast on Monday.

The event, attended by Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson, Phenix City Mayor Eddie Lowe, and others, was held at the Columbus Trade Center.

Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III was the event's guest speaker, and Georgia State Sen. Ed Harbinson was awarded with the Unity Award. Harbinson, a native of Prattville, AL, has served in the Georgia State Senate since 2012, serving the 26th district.

“The Unity Award Breakfast is an event that we have every year. It’s to promote unity in the community, and also it’s a chance for us to bestow upon a deserving individual or organization our coveted Unity Award," said Vincent Bernard Jones, chairman of the MLK, Jr. Unity Award breakfast.

The annual breakfast is sponsored by the Delta Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
