COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – PAWS Humane hosted its first annual "Come. Sit. Stay." Luncheon at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
This fundraiser highlighted all of the work PAWS does both inside and outside of the shelter. It will also educate the community on the visions and future goals of PAWS Humane.
The keynote speaker was Beth Stern, the wife to Howard Stern and a national spokesperson for North Shore Animal League, model and New York Times bestselling author. Stern has brought national attention to the plight of shelter pets and Stern and her husband live with their six rescue cats and litter after litter of foster kittens.
"People have to stop buying pets from pet stores. They need to know that their local shelters are right around the corner. When they adopt from a shelter they are not saving one life, but two. They are saving the one they are adopting and they are opening up space for another animal to come in," Mrs. Stern said.
Contributions go toward ensuring homeless pets receive the best possible care in shelters.
