UPDATE: The Tornado Watch has been canceled for ALL of South Mississippi. We will still see moderate to heavy showers through midnight to 1 AM.
A Tornado Watch has been issued for ALL of South Mississippi until 3 AM Friday. The tornado watch area stretches from southeast Louisiana into Alabama.
This includes the following counties in the WLOX-TV viewing area:
PEARL RIVER, STONE, GEORGE, HANCOCK, HARRISON, JACKSON
Thunderstorms that develop on Thursday evening will pose a threat for tornadoes. Numerous thunderstorms approaching from the west and southwest will pose a risk for a few tornadoes in addition to large hail and damaging winds.
Primary threats inside of the watch area include a few tornadoes likely with a couple of intense tornadoes possible, scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible, and isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible.
Remember, a tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
