MERIWETHER, GA (WTVM) – Meriwether County Sheriff Deputies have arrested a man on several charges including aggravated assault and burglary in the first-degree.
On Jan. 18, 2016 around 4 p.m. deputies were called to the 1400 block of Dukes Waddell Road in Woodbury, GA regarding a report of someone being shot. When they arrived on the scene, they located a male who had been shot in the lower extremities.
The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment of the injuries he received. Investigators were able to identify the shooter as 24-year-old Jacob Christopher Burke. Burke then fled the scene in a small compact vehicle prior to the deputies' arrival on the scene.
"We then began to track Burke's whereabouts and were able to take him into custody without incident at a residence on McGill Road, Manchester, Ga. Our investigators were able to locate the handgun used in this assault in a wooded area off of Chapel Hill Road, Manchester, GA. The weapon was reported stolen out of Harris County, Ga. during the month of Dec. 2015," Sheriff Smith stated.
During the investigation, officials were also able to link Burke to a burglary that occurred on River Road in Manchester, GA prior to the incident on Dukes Waddell Road. He was also linked to a previous burglary on Whitehouse Parkway in Warm Springs, GA.
Burks is now being held in the Meriwether County Jail without bond in reference to the charges of one count each of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving stolen property and two counts of burglary in the first-degree.
