MUSCOGEE COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - On Thursday, Robert K Smith announced that he will be running for Muscogee County Sheriff.
He says he wants to make some changes here in Columbus because he says the area has had some hard times, budget issues, administration concerns, and overcrowded jails.
He feels he would make a strong sheriff and says he's worked with the District Attorney as a criminal investigator, and has two master's degrees.
"Right now we have a lot of problems right now in the sheriff's office," Smith said. "When you look at the budget, when you're looking at the jail as well as you're looking at the community and with that being said I'm here to be a strong leader."
Smith's resume includes working with the Columbus Housing Authority as a police officer and as an agent with Metro Narcotics.
