COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Two sixth grade students at Richards Middle school were found with weapons on Friday, Jan. 22.
The students, 11 and 12 years old, were carrying an unloaded .380 gun and BB gun, according to the Muscogee County School District Director of Communications Valerie Fuller.
Both weapons were discovered in the book bags of the students. There weren't any threats or reports of injuries following the incident.
"We commend students and staff for reporting safety concerns, violations or any suspicious activity," Fuller said. "We encourage parents to review the behavior code and discipline policies with their child because safety is priority and daily attendance is critical to academic success."
The MCSD does have policies on weapons and dangerous instruments. Any student who violates the behavior code and discipline policies of MCSD is subject to potential disciplinary action.
Parents were notified about the safety incident.
