GA state lawmakers meet with Columbus residents for town hall meeting

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Several local state lawmakers were at the Columbus Public Library on Saturday to meet with the public for a town hall meeting.

House Minority Whip Carolyn Hugley, Chairman Emeritus Calvin Smyre, Representative Debbie Buckner, and Sen. Ed Harbison hosted the event. Among other things, the quartet of legislators discussed the latest happenings inside the 2016 Georgia legislative session.

"In order for us to do our best to represent the citizens we have to hear from citizens and so it's our way of staying in contact with members of the public that we represent, and it gives them the opportunity to hear from us of what is going on so it's important to that relationship between the elected officials and the constituents,” Re. Carolyn Hugley said.

The Georgia legislative session began Jan. 11 and will adjourn this spring, on March 17.
