AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - A high-ranking Auburn University official was placed on administrative leave last December after he was arrested for enticing a child for immoral purposes and interference with custody.
Now, we have learned a Lee County Grand jury has indicted Larry DeWayne Brown on a sex abuse charge.
Brown is the associate vice president with Auburn University's Alumni Affairs.
Lee County investigators say on Dec. 16, 2015, Brown checked out a 14-year-old female student from Beauregard High School, then later checked her back in.
Brown was arrested that week and charged with enticing a child for immoral purposes, as well as interference with custody.
Shortly after Brown was arrested, Sheriff Jay Jones told News Leader 9 his investigators were trying to figure out what happened when Brown checked the girl out without her parents' permission then checked her back in.
This month, a Lee County Grand Jury found Brown had sexual contact with the young lady and charged him with one count of sex abuse second degree.
Many viewers have asked how Brown was able to check out this student without her parent's permission.
The Superintendent of Lee County Schools said in light of the circumstances, they have reviewed their check out policy and procedures system-wide to ensure this never happens again.
Brown has been released from the Lee County Detention Facility after posting a $23,000 bond.
