Opelika PD share tips for business robbery prevention

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

Following 12 break-ins in Columbus Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, and an armed robbery at Opelika's Check Into Cash just last Thursday, we spoke with police about the importance of having a quality surveillance and security system.

“It's extremely critical and to be honest with you there are lots of different types of video surveillance systems out there. You know obviously you get what you pay for,” said Opelika Police Captain Shane Healey. “If somebody calls and asks us ya know to come to their home or their business and asks us questions about things they could do to help protect their home or their business we would be happy to do that. We would rather meet them ahead of time when there aren’t bad things that have happened.”

Capt. Healey is hoping that with the surveillance video from Check Into Cash they will be able to make an arrest in this case.

“It's pretty important, ya know the location that you put your cameras, and the type of cameras that you use it is important,” Capt. Healey said.

Through the video, police have identified a lone suspect fleeing the scene in a black SUV.

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to call the Opelika Police Department Investigative Services Division at (334)705-5220.
