CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL (WTVM) – Chambers County Sheriff's Office made an arrest in connection to an armed robbery that happened on Wednesday, Jan. 27 around 6:47 p.m. at the Welch One Stop in northern Chambers County.
According to police, the suspect asked for cigarettes and when the clerk opened the cash drawer, the suspect presented a handgun and aimed it at the clerk's face.
He then reached into the drawer and removed the money. The suspect then fled the store. Within seconds, an off duty Lafayette police officer arrived at the store and learned about the robbery.
He quickly noticed a suspicious individual in the area and followed him south on U.S. 431. The suspect realized he was being followed, accelerated to a high rate of speed and got away from the officer.
This enabled investigators to develop a suspect. On Thursday, around 10 a.m. CST, the sheriff's office investigators arrested Roosevelt Andronicas Mackey, 26, of Lafayette, and charged him with first-degree robbery.
