Columbus Lions hold open tryouts

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Lions continue to build their roster as the 2016 season approaches.

The Lions held open tryouts at Garrett-Harrison Stadium in Phenix City on Saturday afternoon, scouting the best talent possible with training camp coming up in a few weeks.

Head coach Jason Gibson says even though they're close to the start of the season, he'll take anyone that can help his team win another championship.

"I'm always just looking for a really good player, and we were talking with the coaches about who's here and who's not here, and I've kinda got my training camp roster full but I tell guys if you're better than what I've got I'm gonna make room, trust me," Gibson said. "We play to win, and I'm gonna play the best players."

The Lions' season kicks off March 20 at home when they face the Georgia Firebirds in the Civic Center at 4 p.m.
