ATLANTA, GA (WTVM) - The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles has denied clemency for condemned inmate Brandon Astor Jones.
At 72, Jones is the oldest inmate on Georgia's death row and is scheduled to die by lethal injection Tuesday, Feb. 2 at the State Prison in Jackson at 7 p.m.
Jones would become the oldest person ever to be executed by the state. He was convicted, along with another man, of killing Roger Tackett, a convenience store manager in Cobb County in 1979.
The co-defendant was put to death in 1985. A 1997 re-sentencing trial also returned a death sentence for Jones, who is less than two weeks away from his 73rd birthday.
