PLAINS, GA (WTVM) -

The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site will begin its 2016 National Park Service Centennial kick-off by conducting a weekend lecture and book signing series.

Park Superintendent Barbara Judy made the announcement Wednesday. The three-day celebration will culminate with the honor of former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter as their guests at the Plains High School auditorium on Presidents Day.

“What an amazing time in history for the general public to experience some rare and deeply rich moments about the 39th  President of the United States and his 1976 presidential campaign,” said Superintendent Judy.

On Saturday, Feb. 13, Historian Dr. Laurence L. Cook, a life-long collector of historic presidential memorabilia, who specializes in lesser known facts and personal sides of the presidency, will do a lecture titled “Presidents that have close ties to New York State, Pennsylvania and Georgia.”  This lecture will be held at 11 a.m., in the auditorium of Plains High School Museum and Visitor Center in Plains.

Dr. Cook will answer questions as well as autograph his book “Presidential Coincidences, Amazing Facts and Collectibles,” which will be available for purchase in the Eastern National bookstore at the Plains High School Museum and Visitor Center.  The event is free and open to the public.
