COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus man whose death has sparked plenty of controversy was laid to rest Saturday.

Marquis Brown died following a fight in the parking lot Outlaws Saloon last weekend. Family and friends said goodbye at Brown's funeral held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Phenix City.

The Muscogee County Coroner has listed Brown's cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head. Police say they are still trying to figure out what object or weapon was used against brown.

Outlaws, the Saloon where Marquis Brown sustained the injuries that lead to his death released the following statement concerning Brown and this incident:

This is truly a senseless and horrible tragedy that a young man lost his life in an after hours parking lot brawl. Our sincere and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Marquis Brown. We hope that everybody understands that we have been advised that we cannot say much about this incident at this point because witnesses are still being questioned and the case is still being investigated by the Columbus Police Department. However, as someone that has already been questioned by CPD, I know they are taking this very seriously and are investigating it thoroughly. Outlaws and its staff has fully cooperated with the CPD, answered any and all questions, provided all employee information and turned over all video footage from that night and will continue to do so until this investigation is over. We know that everybody is looking for answers, so are we. We ask that everybody please be patient with the police and let them do their work so they can put an end to all the speculation and come to a conclusion in this case. We also ask that if someone has actual information or knowledge of this case to please come forward and contact the police. Thank You

An attorney for Brown's family says they're considering an independent medical exam to investigate what caused his death. Brown leaves behind two children. No arrests have been made.
