COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - February is American Heart Awareness Month and cardiovascular disease, including heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure.

It's the number one killer of American women and men, and it's a leading cause of serious illness and disability.

Some risk factors for heart disease include high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Diabetes and a family history of heart disease can be contributing factors.

Some symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain or pressure. Nausea and vomiting are also signs of heart disease.

The disease can affect individuals as young as 30 years old, according to Director of Cardiology at Midtown Medical Center Stacey Anderson.
